Laundry strips for travel: pack light and still do laundry
Taking half a suitcase full of clean clothes, or washing once while traveling? Laundry strips make the second option much more attractive: they are flat, light and dry, and you can take a few doses with you without a heavy bottle or leakage among your clothes. With a little preparation, they work for a small holiday wash, a camping washing machine, a hotel wash, or a quick hand wash in the sink.
How many laundry strips should you bring?
Don't count your travel days, but your washes; that often saves half. For small loads, you can take half strips if that fits the usage guidelines. For a full drum or heavily soiled textiles, you need the higher dosage. Feel free to add a few extra: they hardly weigh anything and it prevents you from running out on the road.
Store the strips in their original packaging or in a clean, tightly sealed dry container. Do not store them loosely next to a wet towel or in a toiletry bag where water can get in.

- Sort and check labels. Even on the go, the wash label remains the guiding principle.
- Place the strip in the drum. Between or on top of the laundry, not in the dispenser drawer.
- Do not overfill. Small machines tend to have too little space for water and movement.
- Choose an appropriate program. Adapted to your clothes and what the machine can handle.
- Remove the laundry immediately. Let it dry completely; damp laundry in a bag quickly becomes musty.
Can you wash by hand?
A laundry strip can also be practical for hand washing (underwear, swimwear, or a small shirt), if the instructions on your package allow hand washing. Use a small amount in sufficient water, let the strip dissolve, and rinse the textile thoroughly. Do not rub delicate fabrics hard and check the wash label. For a short hand wash: less is usually wiser than a whole strip.
Are laundry strips considered liquids on a plane?
Laundry strips are dry, so they do not fall under the liquid rule like a bottle of laundry detergent. However, baggage rules can vary by airport and airline. Before departure, check the current rules for hand luggage and checked baggage, keep the packaging identifiable, and do not bring more than you need.
